High school softball: LadyCats down Elgin/Imbler

UNION – The Union/Cove softball team is off to a 1-0 2A/1A Special District 7 start after a 9-7 win over Elgin/Imbler on Tuesday, April 2, in Union.
Union/Cove fans were in the stands some extra time as this game went nine innings.
Tied at seven runs each, Elgin/Imbler forced the LadyCats into a scoreless eighth inning for both teams. In the bottom of the ninth, Amanda Lawyer hit the walkoff two-run home run to secure the win.
“Elgin/Imbler played us tough,” Union/Cove head coach Madison Barr said. “We have some work to do before out next game.”
Kali Amy, Cabella Gregory and Avi Allen each had hits in the game for the LadyCats.
Elgin/Imbler (2-5 overall, 0-1 2A/1A Special District 7) looks to rebound from the extra inning loss and break a five game skid on April 5 with a trip to take on 3A McLoughlin (2-3 overall).
Union/Cove (4-4 overall, 1-0 2A/1A Special District 7) is also in action on April 5 with two home games versus league opponent Pilot Rock/Nixyaawii (5-3 overall, 0-1 2A/1A Special District 7). The Rockets fell to Weston-McEwen/Griswold in their league opener.
The first pitch between the two teams is scheduled for an early 11 a.m. start.
