High school softball: Huskies fall to top-ranked team

JOHN DAY — A bus trip to John Day made the return trip home to Elgin quickly as the Elgin/Imbler softball team fell in three innings to Grant Union/Prairie City on Tuesday, April 16, in Class 2A/1A Special District 7 play.

The defending 2A/1A state champion Prospectors made quick work of the Huskies in an 18-2 victory.

Elgin/Imbler (4-9 overall, 2-5 2A/1A Special District 7) remains in district action on April 19 with a return home for two games against Irrigon (2-9 overall, 0-6 2A/1A Special District 7). Game one is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.

The Huskies current sit tied for sixth in the district standings with Pilot Rock/Nixyaawii. The 2A/1A Special District 7 includes the two top-ranked teams in the state with the Prospectors sitting in the top spot followed by Weston-McEwen/Griswold in second.
