- Greenwood Elementary School show some "Giant" pride in their school on Friday, Sept. 3, 2021. The parade saw cohorts from all classes take to the streets with signs, accompanied by the La Grande High School marching band and crews with the La Grande Fire Department.
LA GRANDE — Greenwood Elementary PTS announced it has been awarded a $7,636 grant by the Wildhorse Foundation for its Literacy Empowerment initiative.
This grant will allow the organization to incorporate an Inchy’s Bookworm Vending Machine with the school’s Positive Behavior Intervention System.
The book vending machine will support reading and character-building skills at Greenwood Elementary. According to the announcement, the vending machine “is a symbol of hope and inspiration for our students.”
When students meet a PBIS goal, they earn a token to select a free book from the vending machine.
A wide range of reading levels and interests will be available, “ensuring that every child can find something that speaks to their heart and nurtures their love for reading.”
The PBIS program reinforces the importance of qualities such as academic independence, responsibility, respect and courage, empowering students to reach their full potential.
