High school softball: La Grande holds 3A Pioneers scoreless

LA GRANDE — Careful not to overlook an upcoming doubleheader to decide the 4A Greater Oregon League lead, the La Grande softball team took care of business on Monday, May 6, holding 3A McLoughlin scoreless in a 9-0 nonleague victory.
The Tigers used 12 hits in the game highlighted by home runs by Maddie Seavert and Martin Anderson in the shortened three-inning game. La Grande also committed a single error.
Austyn Meuser recorded the quick win, going two innings and seeing eight McLoughlin batters. She allowed a single hit while striking out two.
Carlee Strand pitched the third and final inning of the game, allowing no hits and striking out two of four Pioneer batters faced.
La Grande (17-1 overall, 9-1 4A Greater Oregon League) now prepares for the two games fans have anxiously awaited. The Tigers will travel to Pendleton (21-2 overall, 9-1 4A Greater Oregon League) for two league games on May 10.
The last meeting of these two teams saw La Grande take an 11-9 win and the Buckaroos pay it back with a 9-7 victory. Host Pendleton hits the field third in the 4A state rankings with La Grande one spot back in fourth.
