High school girls golf: Tigers take district title by 24 strokes

BAKER CITY — Led by senior Emma Bell’s second-place individual finish at the 4A/3A/2A/1A Special District 4 championship, the La Grande girls golf team claimed the district title after two days of action Tuesday, May 7, at the Quail Ridge Golf Course in Baker City.
The Tigers ended with a two-day total of 798 after improving on day two with a 393 compared to the first day total of 405.
Pendleton/Griswold finished second in the scoring with a 822 and Dufur, with a 884, was third in the team finish.
Bell finished behind only Dufur’s Tygh Timinsky, the district champion, by seven strokes.
Timinsky finished with a 174 total over the two days with Bell shooting a 91 on day one and a 90 on day two ended with a 181 total.
Junior Natasha Lane picked up a top five individual finish, finishing fourth with a 196-stroke total. After carding an even 100 on the first day of action, Lane cut four strokes off on day two to finish with a top five medal.
Senior Dylann Justice picked up a top 10 placement, starting the tournament off with a 99 on day one and finishing with a 104 on day two for a 203 total, seventh in the individual standings.
Cutting 23 strokes off her game on day two, junior Olesya Forbes placed 16th, finishing with a 229. Forbes struggled to start the championship, firing a 126 before bouncing back in with a 103 in round two.
Junior Makaylaa Hibbert finished her tournament in 20 th after a 232-stroke total. Hibbert started her championship run with a 115 on day one and finished with a 117 on day two.
Union/Cove/Imbler freshman Cora Royes wrapped up her first district tournament with a 25th individual finish, ending the two days with a 245 score. Royes started off with a 124 on the first day, improving to a 121 on day two.
La Grande now prepares for the state championship to be held May 13-14 at the Tokatee Golf Club, 50 miles east of Eugene in McKenzie Bridge.
