WALLOWA — A 40-acre wildfire is burning north of Wallowa, prompting the closure of Promise Road from the pavement to Wildcat Ranch.

The fire is on lands protected by the Oregon Department of Forestry Northeast Oregon District.
ODF engines are on the scene, along with hand crews and a dozer. Additional resources, including dozers, engines, water tenders and aircraft have been requested to help suppress the fire, which grew from 25 to 40 acres Thursday afternoon.
An estimated for containment was not immediately available.
An ODF post on the Northeast Oregon District’s Facebook page attributed the blaze to lightning.
