Football previews: All county teams see action this weekend

Fresh off an impressive 32-0 win last Friday over Astoria to kick off the football season, the La Grande Tigers aim to claim a second win when they host the Vale Vikings at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6.

The third-ranked Vikings, who play in the 3A classification (La Grande is a 4A school), are coming off a solid win of their own, a 29-6 victory over top-ranked Cascade Christian. The victory snapped a 26-game winning streak by Cascade Christian, and avenged a Viking loss to the Challengers (last year’s 3A champions) in last year’s playoffs.
In other weekend games involving Union County football teams this weekend:
• Enterprise at Cove, 7 p.m. Friday: The last time these two teams met, it was in the 2024 1A 8-man playoffs, with the Outlaws defeating the Leopards, 24-6.

Since then, the Outlaws have been booted up to the 2A level, but the Leopards will be looking for an opportunity for payback for last year’s playoff loss. Cove is 1-0 this season, with a convincing 46-14 win last Friday against Sherman/Condon.
• Elgin at Perrydale, 7 p.m.: Elgin travels to Perrydale for the Huskies’ season opener on Friday. Perrydale is 1-0 on the young season after a 38-20 victory against Mohawk on Friday, Aug. 30.
• Imbler at Sherman/Condon, 7 p.m.: Imbler is on the road for its season opener, traveling to Sherman/Condon. Sherman/Condon (0-1) lost to Cove, 46-14, to open its season last Friday.
• Powder Valley moves to 2-0: Meanwhile, Powder Valley is 2-0, with two impressive road wins. On Thursday, Sept. 5, the Badgers shut out Pilot Rock/Ukiah, 36-0. That follows on the heels of a 34-14 season-opening win against Lyle/Wishram/Klickitat/Glenwood on Aug. 30.
League-leading Powder Valley has one more nonleague game on its slate, Thursday, Sept. 12 at Riverside. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The Badgers finish their schedule with six straight league games, including four at home.
