Guild member Barbara McCormack discovered March 24 that an estimated $4,000-$10,000 worth of quilts and equipment related to making them was missing. She found the storage locker behind United Parcel Service on Fish Hatchery Lane open.
Police Chief Kevin McQuead said March 26 that he’s not even sure it was a theft.
“I have found that locker open in the past and was able to secure it,” he said.

However, on Monday, May 8, he said he has determined it was a theft.
“Somebody was in there who wasn’t supposed to be and took things,” the chief said.
McCormack said the veteran who donated the money to help make up for the guild’s losses had received his quilt about six years ago and declined to be identified.
“He said he cannot express how much he treasures his quilt and the thoughts and labor that went in to making it,” McCormack said. “He wants to make sure other veterans continue to receive quilts as a thank you for their service.”
