LA GRANDE — The Center for Human Development is set to unveil its new Outreach Center, at 2206 Jefferson Ave., La Grande, aimed at helping vulnerable populations in Union County.
The Union County Chamber of Commerce will join CHD in a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday, Aug. 31, at 4 p.m. to mark the occasion. The event, which runs until 6 p.m., welcomes local residents and stakeholders, offering the chance to meet staff, tour the facility and learn about available resources.
With a history of addressing the health needs of Union County residents, CHD is expanding its efforts with grant funding to better assist individuals dealing with behavioral health issues, including substance use and mental illness.
“We see the impact of drug addiction in our communities. The opioid crisis keeps growing, and so we’re stepping up with more outreach, harm reduction and accessible screenings,” Lisa Whipple, CHD’s BHRN Coordinator, said. “Our goal is to empower individuals with the tools they need to tackle addiction and mental health challenges.”
Over time, CHD has been providing comprehensive treatment and support for those struggling with addictions and mental health conditions. Services range from screenings, assessments and therapy to peer support, case management, medication for addiction treatment, and naloxone distribution and training. These efforts aim not only to provide clinical assistance but also to foster trust, a key factor in successful treatment.
CHD is a private, not-for-profit health organization that provides addictions and mental health services, intellectual/developmental disabilities services, public health services, and veterans services to the residents of Union County.
