High school volleyball roundup: Tigers fall to Pendleton in GOL sweep

PENDLETON — On the road, La Grande fell in 4A Greater Oregon League play to Pendleton on Thursday, Sept. 28, in Pendleton.

The Bucs swept the Tigers in three sets, winning the first 25-17 followed by a second set 25-19 victory. The night came to an end for La Grande as Pendleton swept the match with a third set 25-21 win.

Serving was a high point for the Tigers in the loss with the team serving at 97% and eight players serving at 100%.

“We did play Pendleton better this time than we did at a recent tournament and I was pleased with that,” La Grande head coach Melinda Becker-Bisenius said. 

La Grande (7-9 overall, 2-1 overall) attempts to go to 3-1 in league play on Oct. 5 with a trip to Ontario (1-11 overall, 0-3 4A Greater Oregon League). La Grande has an earlier victory over the Tigers, downing Ontario 3-0 on Sept. 21.

Elgin 3, Griswold 1

HELIX — The Elgin volleyball team improved to 2-2 in the 1A Old Oregon League with a 3-1 victory over Griswold on Thursday, Sept. 28, playing on the road in Helix.

The Huskies looked to have an early night, winning the first set convincingly by a score of 25-14 followed by a second set win, 25-22.

Elgin took its foot off the gas in the third set, allowing the Grizzlies back into the match with Griswold winning 25-16.

The Huskies closed out the match in the fourth set, winning 25-20.

Elgin (6-7 overall, 2-2 1A Old Oregon League) will spend most of Sept. 30 on a bus or in a gym. The Huskies first travel to Nixyaawii to take on the Golden Eagles (1-7 overall, 0-4 1A Old Oregon League). Elgin then reboards the bus for a trip to Pilot Rock for an afternoon match against the Rockets (8-7 overall, 2-3 1A Old Oregon League).

Powder Valley 3, Pine Eagle 0

PINE EAGLE – Currently third in the state 1A rankings, Powder Valley made it look easy, cruising 3-0 over the Pine Eagle Spartans in 1A Old Oregon League action on Thursday, Sept. 28.

In addition to the win streak now sitting at nine matches, the Badgers also lead the league standings in the Old Oregon League with a perfect 8-0 showing.
