LA GRANDE — Esthetician Don Lowry is the sole proprietor of True You Esthetics, introducing Jade Microcurrent facial treatments, in La Grande.

Lowry was first introduced to Jade Microcurrent technology in his father’s naturopathic practice. It is used to stimulate healing, and for this reason, it also has applications in physical therapy and chiropractic settings.

“I grew up with it for injury recovery and things of that sort,” Lowry said. “Then six years ago, I started selling the Jade Microcurrent machine to estheticians until the pandemic started.”

The pandemic’s social restrictions impacted his work temporarily, but once restrictions were lifted, he was drawn back to this health care technology and a lifestyle that gave him more time with his family.

“I really liked the work of it and the difference it made for people, so at that point, I decided to go to school to become an esthetician. I enrolled at Spectrum Advanced Aesthetics Institute in Tigard,” Lowry said.

After several months of education, he successfully completed his training and earned an esthetician’s license in September 2022. Then in November, he opened his business in La Grande.

True You Esthetics operates inside the Bella Luna Salon and Spa, 1002 Spring Ave., La Grande. Lowry offers several rejuvenating skin treatments, including enzyme masks, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, ultrasonic exfoliation, ultrasonic extraction of skin impurities, and dermaplaning, which is used to treat deep acne scars or other facial defects. He also offers microcurrent facials.

“Microcurrent treatment is an electronically stimulated massage using natural healing frequencies,” Lowry said. “Science shows us that the body is indeed electric and responds well to microcurrent.”

Microcurrent treatments are used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and reset facial muscles to provide long-lasting wrinkle reduction without the need for harsh chemicals, surgery or injections. The treatment also assists in draining the lymphatic system, removing toxins and eliminating waste.

It’s the contraction of muscles that causes wrinkles, Lowry said. However, microcurrent treatments soften the muscles through deep massage and toning using low frequencies of electricity, which he said the body responds well to.

“A series of microcurrent treatments will soften wrinkles, reduce blockage, promote collagen and elastin, and it will bring healing to the surface of your skin from the inside out,” he said.

A good follow-up home care routine is just as important as the treatment, he said. Lowry customizes an at-home skin care routine for each client to follow to maintain the benefits of the treatments already received.

“I am really enjoying seeing the difference this noninvasive healthy technology is making in my clients,” he said. “I’m honored to be the only one offering this service in Eastern Oregon.”

Typically, sessions are 1 hour long with 45 minutes of table time. Shorter sessions are available at 20 minutes by request, if time doesn’t permit the client a full hour appointment. For the best results, a series of appointments are recommended followed by maintenance visits.

Clients can book consultations and appointments on True You Esthetics’ website, www.TrueYouEsty.com, or by calling Bella Luna at 704-500-9233. A $20 discount applies to the first treatment. True You can also be found on Facebook, Instagram and Vagaro.

Lowry and his wife, Nadine, have one daughter, and they relocated from Colorado to La Grande, seeking the atmosphere of a smaller community. As a family, they love camping and the great outdoors of Northeast Oregon.
