College football: EOU upset bid comes up just short

CALDWELL, Idaho – A steadily improving Eastern Oregon football team just missed pulling off one of the biggest upsets of the season as it fell to No. 8 College of Idaho (8-1) 42-38 on Saturday.

EOU struck first when quarterback Quincy Glasper connected with Sam Larson on a 25-yard strike to cap a four-play, 70-yard drive. The Yotes tied the score when Jon Schofield hauled in a 44-yard TD.
The Yotes took a 14-7 lead in the second quarter but the Mountaineers responded with a 23 yard dash to the end zone by Aiden Patterson. The two teams traded touchdowns before halftime as College of Idaho quarterback Jon Schofield hit Ben Hruby from two yards out. EOU tied the game at 21-all when Waylon Riedel crashed in from 1-yard out.
The Mountaineers took the lead in the third quarter on a 39-yard field goal from Ethan Cutler. After the Yotes scored a touchdown, EOU retook the lead in the fourth quarter, 31-28, on another Riedel 1-yard run. The Mountaineers retook the lead in the fourth quarter for the second time on a 21-yard TD pass from Glasper to Malachi Spurrier to go up 38-35 with 8:53 remaining.

However, the Yotes would get the final score with a touchdown with 3:18 remaining to grind out the win.
EOU showed their offensive firepower with 494 total yards to College of Idaho’s 442. Glasper had an impressive performance, completing 27 of 40 passes for 349 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. Spurrier hauled in 13 receptions for 160 yards and a touchdown. Jason Grant and Jonas Waugh led EOU with seven tackles apiece.
The Mounties (2-6) return to Community Stadium on Nov. 4 to face Southern Oregon on Senior Night.
