High school volleyball roundup: Cove takes road victory, qualifies for OOL tournament

ELGIN — The task for the Cove volleyball team was very simple. Win on the road in Elgin in an upset and the season is extended. Fall in the play-in match and the season comes to an end with a bus ride home.

The Leopards chose to make plans for a trip to Baker City, downing the Huskies 26-24, 25-21, 25-11, on Tuesday, Oct. 17, and making plans to take on the Joseph Eagles in the first round of 1A Old Oregon League tournament action.

Match and individual statistics were not made available.

Cove (12-13 overall, 4-6 1A Old Oregon League) will be on the court early on Oct. 21 in Baker City, meeting Joseph (20-8 overall, 8-2 1A Old Oregon League) at 9 a.m. in first-round action. The winner will go on to meet Union later in the day.

Matches played during the regular season saw the Eagles win twice over the Leopards, winning 3-1 on Sept. 12 and 3-0 on Oct. 14.

Elgin closes out its season with a 12-13 overall record and a 6-4 record in the 1A Old Oregon League, a fifth-place finish in the league standings.

The Huskies will take the court next season without the services of outgoing seniors Chelsie McKay, Madelyn Adams, Corrina Smith, Jacie Lathrop, Rylee Sandland and Dakota Anderson.

Imbler 3, Pilot Rock 0

IMBLER — Fans of Imbler volleyball are making plans on where to eat in Baker City this weekend, after the Panthers downed Pilot Rock, 25-16, 25-10, 25-17, in a 1A Old Oregon League play-in match on Tuesday, Oct. 17, in the Imbler gym.

The victory propels the Panthers to the Old Oregon League tournament starting Oct. 21 in Baker City.

Match and individual statistics were not made available.

Imbler (16-13 overall, 5-5 1A Old Oregon League) begins its march towards a league title at 9 a.m. against Echo (11-11 overall, 9-1 1A Old Oregon League). The winner of the match advances to take on Powder Valley with that match slated for an 11 a.m. start.

Echo enters the tournament on a seven-game win streak. The Cougars and Panthers met once during the regular season, a non-league affair that saw Imbler win 25-19, 25-20, 25-10 on Sept. 14.
