BAKER CITY — The eastbound lanes of Interstate 84 are reopened as of 2 p.m. after being closed most of the day on Friday, Dec. 1, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation.
The closure, which was initially just between Baker City and Ontario, was caused by a number of early morning crashes near Ontario, according to ODOT. The closure was then extended from Baker City to La Grande due to a lack of parking.
Oregon Department of Transportation reported that the eastbound lanes were closed between Exit 265, 4 miles east of La Grande, and Exit 374 in Ontario. Multiple crashes, at mileposts 304, 323 and 325, were behind the closures. Crews worked to clear eastbound lanes at the milepost 204 crash site.
The weather also impacted the eastbound lane of I-84 at milepost 216, 7 miles east of Pendleton at Exit 216/OR 331. Traffic was at a standstill due to spun out vehicles blocking lanes at milepost 223, at the top of Cabbage Hill.
