New team competes at Spokane Speed Games

SPOKANE, Wash. — Running a 400 meter race may be the farthest thing in your mind as we are one week away from Christmas, but a new group did just that on Saturday, Dec. 16, taking part in the Spokane Speed Games.

Five local tracksters made the trip as part of the Eastern Oregon Track Club, a group of 19 student athletes participating in the indoor track season.

Powder Valley eighth grade student Matty Gressley placed fourth in the mile run, posting a personal best time of 6 minutes, 20.63 seconds.

In a crowded field of 75 runners, Badger sophomore Sammy Gressley crossed the finish in 8.70 seconds for the 60-meter dash. She finished her day with a 28.81 second 200 meters, 60th in a field of over 85 runners.

Powder Valley senior Tyler Gressley posted a 1:12.75 in the 400-meter finals and finished her day with a 2:55.15 in the 800 meters.

Seventh-grade student Brynn Weishaar made her mark in the 60 meters, posting a time of 9.28 seconds, a ninth place showing. Weishaar continued her day in the 200 meters with a finish of 31.75 seconds.

Badger sophomore Taylor Weishaar also finished ninth with her race being the one mile and a time of 6:13.93.
