College men’s basketball: Mountaineers blanked on the road against Yotes

CALDWELL, Idaho — The Eastern Oregon University men’s basketball team will be looking to put their most recent game behind them, falling at No. 2 College of Idaho by a score of 75-45 on Saturday, December 9.

The Mountaineers fell behind big in the first half and never recovered, losing by 30. The loss dropped the team’s record to 1-7 on the season.

The powerhouse Yotes team, who are 7-2 on the season, came out scorching in the first half. The College of Idaho built a quick 18-8 lead out of the gates and continued to expand the lead late in the first frame. The Yotes built a huge 42-18 lead at halftime behind 17 points from Johnny Radford. The College of Idaho shot 17-33 (51.5%) from the field in the first 20 minutes and went 6-14 (42.9%) from three-point range.

Eastern Oregon held its own in the second half, as the College of Idaho held a more limited 33-27 advantage in the final 20 minutes. The Yotes extended their lead to upwards of 37 points, despite cooling down from the field.

Garrett Hawkes led the way for Eastern Oregon, finishing with 10 points, six rebounds, and one assist. Brennan Newswom finished with seven points and six rebounds.

The Mountaineers will be looking to bounce back next weekend, when they travel to Portland for matchups at Warner Pacific on Dec. 15 and Multnomah on Dec. 16.
