Women’s wrestling: Mounties crown 3 champs

LA GRANDE — Eastern Oregon women’s wrestling team crowned three champions at the Mountaineer Open on Sunday.

Stephanie Blankenship claimed the top spot in the 109 pounds after a dominant performance, securing a perfect 3-0 record for the day. She started off her day with a 10-0 technical fall victory over Big Bend Community College’s Natalie Johnson. In her next match, she recorded a pin in 4 minutes, 38 seconds over Gray Harbor College’s Aliya Hammons. Blankenship finished out her day in the championship match with a 10-0 technical fall victory over The Evergreen State College’s Alexia Fabian.
Anna Rodriguez took the top spot at 130 after a 3-0 day on the mat. Rodriguez started off her day with a victory by pin in 1:30 over Big Bend Community College’s Emily Barragan. She secured another victory by pin in 1:55 over Gray Harbor College’s Gloria Hudson. Rodriguez claimed the title with a dominant 10-0 technical fall victory over The Evergreen State College’s Erica Grant.
The final Mountie to claim top spot was Liv Wieber at 155 after finishing 3-0 on the day. Wieber kicked off her day with a victory by pin in 1:30 over Washington State University’s Petra Bernsten. In her next match, she notched a 10-0 technical fall victory over Laura Meyers. To complete her day,, Wieber won by 6-1 decision over The Evergreen State College’s Flor Parke Borrero.
