WILSONVILLE — The first points have not even been through the net and already the Powder Valley and La Grande girls basketball teams are picked to finish in the top of the state’s teams.

The Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) released the preseason poll as voted upon by the state’s coaches on Tuesday, Nov. 28.

The voting places the La Grande girls eighth in the Class 4A poll, one spot behind Baker. Astoria sits at the top of the polling, followed by Henley, Cascade, Philomath and Madras.

Powder Valley sits in seventh in the 1A preseason poll, just ahead of Echo in eighth. The coaches are picking the Lady Mustangs of Crane to win it all followed by St. Paul, North Douglas, Jordan Valley and Country Christian.

A development in the 1A ranks finds Damascus Christian, the reigning 1A state champions, will not field a team this year.
