Letter: Order does not occur in a vacuum

People who don’t believe in God often ask for scientific proof of existence. I say, look around you.

The natural world is ordered; no one debates this. If it wasn’t ordered, there could be no study of it and thus no sciences. But how is it this way? Order does not occur in a vacuum; it requires will and intellect to prevent chaos. The only elements of the natural world that seem chaotic are ones we don’t yet fully understand.

If a hurricane blows through your home, demolishing it and scattering your belongings, but you do nothing about it, it remains this way. Why? Because it takes an exertion of will to reestablish order. The order of the natural world and our own order are often at odds and thus require maintenance. All order requires constant maintenance.

If there was no God, there would be no natural world. No science at all. Prove that you can read. If you just read that to yourself, you’ve already proven it. Likewise, the expectation of evidence is in itself the evidence sought for God’s existence.
