College men’s wrestling roundup: Western Wyoming cruises past Eastern Oregon

AMERICAN FALLS, Idaho — It was not an ideal start to the season for the No. 19 Eastern Oregon men’s wrestling team, dropping its first dual of the season 40-3 at the hands of Western Wyoming Community College on Wednesday, Nov. 3.

Senior Keegan Mulhill earned Eastern’s only victory of the night, defeating Andrew Nicholson at the 184-pound weight class. Mulhill won in a 7-6 decision.

Malakai Moyer gave the 165-pound match against Collin Smith a run, losing in a 12-7 decision. At 141 pounds, Monte Zufelt lost to Caleb Nathan in a 19-12 decision. Jay Smith also dropped a close match, losing 10-6 to Tyler Scheum.

The loss to Western Wyoming dropped the Mountaineers to 0-1 to start off the season. Eastern will be looking to bounce back when the team returns to La Grande for a showdown with Southern Oregon on Nov. 6. The action inside Quinn Coliseum is set to begin at 6 p.m. On Nov. 7. Eastern will host the Mountaineer open. The wrestling begins at 9 a.m. at Quinn Coliseum.
