LA GRANDE — Eastern Oregon University will host the 14th annual Celebrate, Educate, Appreciate Diversity Conference.
The conference aims for attendees to foster meaningful connections, engage in reflection and explore practices that promote understanding and compassion, according to a press release from EOU. Participants will receive insights into power dynamics and privilege while learning how to foster empathy, reduce biases and celebrate differences.
The conference will be May 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Gilbert Center at Eastern’s La Grande campus, 1 University Blvd. It is open to EOU faculty, staff, students and community members.
Attendance is free for faculty, staff and students. Community members must register for the conference, which costs $50. The half day event includes a light breakfast and lunch.
Jeremiah Sims will reprise his role as keynote speaker for this year’s conference. Speaking on themes from his new book “Finding the Beautiful Path,” Sims will discuss systems that cause harm and how to hold space for joy and resistance.
Sims will also lead an interactive workshop “exploring what it means to resist being reduced, erased or dehumanized.”
The conference also will be livestreamed. Streaming information will be available closer to the day of the event.
