- The Joseph City Council holds a public hearing May 1, 2025, during its next council meeting at the Joseph Community Events Center.
JOSEPH — The Joseph City Council at its meeting May 1 holds public hearings on appeals to city planning department denials for conditional-use permits.
The department denied a permit for the building at 100 N. East St. to where the city hopes to relocate the city library. The planning department’s denial was based on locals who objected to the library being in a residential zone on approximately 0.3 acres.
The planning department also denied a conditional-use permit for a 32-foot-by-30-foot garage with a second-floor residence at 709 N. Main St. on approximately 0.3 acres. Keith Wllens submitted the appeal on behalf of John Zurita, who requested the garage and residence. According to Zurita’s plans, the existing residence is to be removed after the proposed residence is completed.
The hearing and council meeting begin at 7 p.m. May 1 at the Joseph Community Events Center, at 102 E. First St. They are open to the public in person or via Zoom at tinyurl.com/JosHearing0501. The meeting ID is 826 7850 5696 and the passcode is 200391.
Written and oral comments may be presented at the hearing or directly to the planning department at city hall or mailed to P.O. Box 15, Joseph, OR 97846. Written comments must be received by 4 p.m. on April 28, or submitted at the hearing. Comments must address how the application does or does not comply with the applicable criteria.
The council at the meeting also plans to meet in executive session to discuss a personnel matter.
