MISSION — The Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation is hosting a public event welcoming community members to learn about First Foods protection and restoration efforts.

CTUIR’s Department of Natural Resources will host the open house Thursday, April 24, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Nixyáawii Governance Center.

CTUIR community and the general public can attend and learn about the department’s efforts to protect and restore First Foods, uphold treaty rights and improve access for CTUIR members.

Community members can ask questions, voice concerns, ideas and assist in identifying future First Foods management work.

People of all ages also can participate in the “Cops & Bobbers” fishing event. They can catch trout with the Umatilla Tribal Police Department in a stocked pond, learn to fish, rig a pole and clean their trout. The UTPD will provide trout, poles, tackle and bait.

First Foods-inspired appetizers also will be served.

For more information about the event, email merlekirk@ctuir.org or call 541-429-7231.
