COVE — Police arrested a Cove man Tuesday, April 29, on a warrant charging felony-level sex crimes.

Oregon State Police arrested James Hicks, 28, for first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy, first-degree unlawful sexual penetrations and first-degree sexual abuse, according to Oregon public records. All are felony-level offenses.

The grand jury indictment alleges the four charges occurred on or about Jan. 11.

The court documents do not provide the name of the reporting party and there is a court order prohibiting Hicks from copying or disbursing any documents from the case that name the individual, according to court records.

The East Oregonian also does not usually publish the names of individuals bringing charges in sex crime cases.

Union County Circuit Court Judge Thomas Powers set bail at $50,000, according to court records.

Union County District Attorney Kelsie McDaniel is prosecuting the case for the state. Court records do not yet list an attorney for Hicks. He is next due in court on May 28 for a plea hearing.
