1927-2012

Betty Marie Hocker, 84, died Feb. 14 at her home in Wallowa. A funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at Wallowa Christian Church. Burial will follow at the Wallowa Cemetery.

Betty was born July 28, 1927, to Charles and Ruth Gordineer in Cottage Grove. She married Garland D. Hocker Nov. 10, 1945, in Cottage Grove. They lived there and had four sons before moving to Wallowa in 1965.

Betty enjoyed crocheting, sewing, gardening, playing the piano, fishing and spending time with her church friends and family.

She taught Sunday school for 23 years.

She is survived by her sons and their wives, Gayle and Terri of

La Grande, Ray and Connie of Soldotna, Alaska, Steve and Vickie of Hermiston and Randy and Sheila of Richland; Janice Bennett of Wallowa, who Betty thought of as a daughter; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters, Jeanne Gibson and her husband, Malcome of Eugene, and Carol DeSpain of Cottage Grove.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband of 61 years, Garland.

James ‘Jim’ Hudson

La Grande

1942-2012

James “Jim” Oliver Hudson, 69, of La Grande, died Feb. 16 at his home with his family present. At this time, no

services are planned.

Jim was born April 5, 1942, to James Edward and Cleo Elmyra (Woodell) Hudson in La Grande. At the age of 14, he went to work for Pete and RB Davis on their cattle ranch. He graduated from La Grande High School with the Class of 1960. In August of 1962, he married Donna Taal in Weiser, Idaho. He worked for Boise Cascade doing road-building. He then worked for the Union County Public Works Department for 36 years, ending his career as a grader

operator.

Jim was very interested in the NRA and loved fishing and hunting. He made hunting knives and those who knew him say he was crafty in many ways. He loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren. His family said he was a man who always welcomed people. Jim was always there to lend a helping hand, they said.

Survivors include his wife, Donna of La Grande; daughter and son-in-law, Stacie Dawn and Glen Brown of North Powder; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Janis Hudson of Summerville; sister and brother-in-law, Connie and Chuck MacKenzie of Ola, Idaho; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by son, Troy Alan Hudson

in 1963; his parents; and

a sister, Joann Shelly.
