The La Grande Subway A’s took two games from the Hermiston Heat

Wednesday night at Optimist Field in American Legion Baseball action.

The A’s won a high-scoring Game 1 15-12, then held on to an early

lead to win Game 2 10-5.

Andrew Fullerton got the A’s on the board in the first inning of Game

1 with a two-run double.

After three runs in the second inning gave Hermiston a 4-2 lead, Austin Arnoldus smashed an RBI double. Arnoldus then came home to score on a double steal to tie the game.

Then Tyler Edison blasted a three-run double that just missed leaving the park to give the A’s a 7-4 lead.

La Grande took advantage of a couple of Hermiston errors and wild pitching to add three more runs in the fourth inning and looked in complete control.

Entering the seventh and final inning, Hermiston trailed 15-7.

But La Grande struggled to close the door and Hermiston took advantage.

The Heat got two runs on an RBI double off pitcher Carson Miller, followed by an RBI single to make it 15-10.

Hermiston got two more runs before La Grande was finally able to get the third out.

Game 2 was a little less dramatic, but still had its exciting moments.

La Grande once again got off to a quick start at the plate, with Erik Jacobs getting the A’s on the board with an RBI double.

Then Austin Arnoldus hit a RBI triple into the gap in right-center field.

Jordan Rogers would add one more run with an RBI double.

Hermiston struggled in the second inning defensively, giving the A’s four more runs on fielder errors to make it 7-0.

But once again La Grande would leave the door open for the Heat.

Hermiston got one in the third and four in the fourth to cut the lead to 8-5.

But that was all they could muster, and the A’s held on to complete the sweep 10-5.

La Grande travels to The Dalles Sunday for a double header starting at 2 p.m.

The next home game for La Grande is July 23 when the regional tournament starts at Optimist Field at Pioneer Park.
