Jimmie L. Jones, 78, of Enterprise, died Sept. 3. A service will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at Enterprise Cemetery.

Frances O. Cooper

Formerly of La Grande

1922-2010

Frances Olive Grant Cooper, 87, formerly of

La Grande and St. George, Utah, died peacefully Aug. 31 at Art City Nursing Center in Springville, Utah.

A service was held Sept. 3 at the Springville Spring Creek Chapel. Burial was at the St. George Cemetery.

She was born Sept. 24, 1922, to Charles Henry and Sarah Inez Nelson Grant in Weiser, Idaho. She married Cecil Walter Cooper June 11, 1941. They were later sealed June 14, 1962, in the Salt Lake Temple.

Those who knew her say she was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings throughout her life. She loved serving in the St. George Temple and her calling as a visiting teacher.

Those who knew her say her testimony has been a source of strength to all. In the process of building 12 houses, Frances became skilled at framing, roofing, sheet rock, painting, masonry and landscaping. Those who knew her say her building skills were legendary in

La Grande and she was the subject of a story on the Paul Harvey radio show.

Frances loved her family, music, painting, reading her scriptures, traveling, sewing and more. She was constantly doing productive things to serve others and to improve her life. She loved to sew and made many things over the years, including quilts for all of her grandchildren.

She is survived by three sons and a daughter, Ron Cooper of Salem, Dennis and Debbie Cooper of Salem, Douglas and Denise Cooper of Springville, and Mary and Don Ganschow of Palo Alto, Calif,; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cecil Walter Cooper; brothers, David, Melvin, Jimmy, Darwin and Hollis; sisters, June, Norma, Veda, Larene, Fern and Alta; and a grandson, Cameron McCall Cooper.

Marjorie Mae

(Lewis) Ledridge

Formerly of La Grande

1927-2010

Marjorie Mae (Lewis) Ledridge, 83, of Vancouver, Wash., and formerly of

La Grande, died Sept. 4 of natural causes. At her request, there will be no public funeral or graveside service.

Marjorie was born July 18, 1927, to George W. and Aletha E. (Powers) Lewis in Richland. The family moved to Idaho where she attended schools in Helmer and Deary. The family then moved to Wallowa where she also attended school. They later moved to La Grande where she finished her schooling.

On June 12, 1952, she married Richard Davis Ledridge in La Grande. She worked as a secretary for various offices over the years, retiring from Boise Cascade. Her hobbies included camping, fishing, hunting, gardening, sewing, knitting, crocheting and traveling in their motorhome. She was a member of the Nazarene Church.

Survivors include her sons and their wives, Ron and Nancy Ledridge of Laurel, Mont., and George and Susan Ledridge of Vancouver, Wash.; daughter, Kathy Harris of Billings, Mont.; sister, Viola Dillman of Coos Bay; brothers, Virgil Lewis of Cove and David and Meg Lewis of Richland, Wash.; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Aletha Lewis; husband, Richard Ledridge; son, Dennis Ledridge; sister, Lila; and brother, Robert.

Frances M. Lenon

La Grande

1925-2010

Frances Mary Lenon, 84, of La Grande, died Sept. 1 at her home with her family by her side. Recitation of the Rosary was held Tuesday at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. Funeral service with Mass will begin at 2 p.m. today at the church. Burial will be at Hillcrest East Cemetery. A reception will follow the graveside service at the Catholic church. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Frances was born Sept. 25, 1925, to Emry and Mary (Martell) Meunier at Twin Falls, Idaho. On Jan. 11, 1945, she married Floyd L. Lenon at Twin Falls. They lived in Twin Falls, Pasco and La Grande where she was known as a hardworking, successful business woman, owning and operating restaurants with her husband.

Frances enjoyed cooking, quilting and gardening. She was an antique collector and loved to play cards and golf. However, her greatest love was her family. Frances was a devout member of the Catholic Church and a volunteer in the Altar Society and the Emblem Club. She was also a volunteer at the Union County Senior Center.

Surviving are her children, Michel Lenon of Kennewick, Kristine Still of La Grande, Larry Lenon of La Grande and Tony Lenon of La Grande; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; her parents; and her son, Tim Lenon Sr.

Florence E. Read-Workman

Formerly of La Grande

1917-2010

Florence E. Read-Workman, 93, longtime resident of

La Grande, died Sept. 1. A celebration of life will begin at

1 p.m. Sept. 25 on her lawn at 707 Fourth St. in La Grande.

Florence was born Feb. 11, 1917, one of eight children to James A. Read and Lulu Belle Read in Evans. She attended Eastern Oregon Normal School and taught in a one-room school house in the little town of Trout Creek.

She married Kenneth W. Workman and had four daughters. She was well known as a cook and worked in the public schools, the senior center and the Hilgard Work Center for boys. She also worked at the Terry Trailer factory.

She was active in the Rebecca Lodge and also the Emblem Club.

She is survived by a sister, Ruth Lammert of La Grande; daughters, Sarah King of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Betty Wiseman of La Grande and Susan King of Valley View, Calif.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Cliff D. Streeter

La Grande

1929-2010

Cliff D. Streeter, 81, of

La Grande, died Sept. 3 of a heart attack. Services will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Nazarene Church in

La Grande. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Cliff was born on Feb. 20, 1929, in Freewater to Lorna (of the Camblins and Ingles who pioneered the Silvies and John Day valleys) and Frank Streeter. At 12, Frank died, and two years later, Lorna married Bernard Streeter, the stepfather who finished raising Cliff. He spent his young years working in logging camps until the family moved to Dayville in 1940 and built a home there.

Cliff graduated at the top of his class from Dayville High School in 1945 and entered the Army soon after. He served as an MP in Company D, 701st Military Police Battalion in San Francisco at Lompoc, Calif., and was honorably discharged in 1951.

Cliff married Bertina Eastman Dec. 2, 1956, and was married for 33 years. They had four children, and the family enjoyed outings in the mountains, fishing, camping and hunting.

After the Army, Cliff worked for Blue Mountain Lumber Co. in John Day as the woods boss. In 1964 the family moved to Prairie City where he worked for the Forest Service for one year. The family moved to Burns in 1965 due to a job offer where he worked for Edward Hines Lumber Co. as woods boss. In 1968, Cliff took a position as timber sale administrator with the Forest Service on the Malheur National Forest.

He relocated to the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest in Baker City in 1976 and continued as timber sale administrator. In 1989 Cliff moved to Bend to a position on the Deschutes National Forest, where he finished his career and retired, with 30 years of service, moving to La Grande in 1993. He continued in his retirement to work in the summers at the La Grande Fire Center for six years, doing fire support, which he enjoyed.

On Oct. 20, 1990, Cliff married Dorothy Osborne in Bend. They built a house together in La Grande and spent retirement together. They enjoyed the mountains, picking berries, traveling, camping and fishing.

Cliff was able to take an Alaskan fishing trip – a fisherman’s dream come true – where he caught a lot of fish.

They attended the Nazarene Church, where he led Bible study the last three years. Cliff’s favorite saying was: “God is never in a hurry, but he is always on time.”

Cliff is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and her two children, Lisa Osborne and Heather Brown of Baker City; his children, Lori Streeter of Boise, Mark Streeter of Caldwell, Idaho, Alice Poe of Baker City and Linda Culbertson of Milton-Freewater; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his aunt and uncle and cousins of Michigan; and cousins in Boise and John Day.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Donna Streeter.
