Virginia M. Portillo
Baker City
1947-2011
Virginia May Portillo, 64, died June 13 in Baker City at a local care center. A private service will be held at the Oregon coast. Gray’s West and Co. Pioneer Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Virginia was born June 5, 1947, in Billings, Mont., to Raymond and Flora (Rodriguez) Portillo. She graduated from high school in Sacramento, Calif., and became a homemaker and mother.
She loved reading books, watching television and crocheting.
Survivors include her daughters, Rosie Beith of La Grande and Amy Crystal Portillo of Eugene; two sons, Oden Green of Eugene and Alex S. Green of Arizona; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Flora Portillo; brother, David Portillo; daughter, Dee Dee Green; and grandson, Bobbie Straw.
Ruby I. Davis

1917-2011
Ruby Inez Davis, 93, of Union, died June 5 at a care center in La Grande. Her memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. June 25 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, 1511 26th St. in La Grande. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Ruby was born Nov. 27, 1917, near Clarksville, Texas, in Red River County. Her parents were George Washington Ewing and Karen Bird Rush Ewing. She married Harvey Dudley Davis in July 1935. He preceded her in death.
Ruby was a cook in a care center for 25 years. She got her license to be a dietitian at Coos County Community College. After retirement, she moved to Union to be near family members. She was a dedicated member of the La Grande Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey; her parents, George and Karen; her grandmother, Maggie Rush; her sister and brother, Elareen Dodson and G.W. (Dick) Ewing; and two granddaughters, Kay Lynn Todd and Rhonda Renee Russell.
Survivors include two daughters, Patsy Ann Miller of Beaverton and Trudy Sandra Chase of Union; two sisters, Peggy Phipps and Elbenia Rainey, both of the Texarkana Texas, area; and one brother, Gilbert Ewing of the Texarkana area; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many more family members.
