Highway 203 between La Grande and Union is closed on Feb. 13, 205, due to no visibility and crashes. Winter weather conditions are impacting roads throughout the county.

UNION COUNTY — Drivers should be careful while out on the roads Thursday, Feb. 13, thanks to winter weather conditions.

Numerous areas in the county are experiencing white-out conditions, according to Union County Emergency Manager Nick Vora.

“Travel in the southern Grande Ronde Valley, especially near Union and Hot Lake is strongly discouraged,” Vora wrote in a social media post.

Roadways may be completely blocked by drifts and drivers should not attempt to drive through the drifts. The snow can be deceptively deep, Vora said, and any assistance will be delayed due to conditions.

Highway 203 between La Grande and Union is temporarily closed as of 1 p.m. due to crashes. Union County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Oregon State Police troopers helped escort drivable vehicles to safe parking areas.

Interstate 84 is also closed in both directions between La Grande and Ontario due to snowdrifts and lack of visibility, according to TripCheck.

Drivers should monitor TripCheck for updates on both roads.
