La Grande
William Boothman, 87, of La Grande, died Nov. 20 at a local care center. A full obituary will be available later. Loveland Funeral Chapel and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
John. W. Hynd
Formerly of La Grande
1938-2008
John William Hynd, 70, of Pendleton and formerly of La Grande, died Nov. 17 in Yuma, Ariz. Yuma Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
John was born Sept. 17, 1938, to Beaulah and Ewing Hynd of Ukiah. He graduated from Pendleton High School in 1956. After graduating from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1960, he served 21 years as an Army officer, retiring as a lieutenant colonel in 1981.
The family then returned to Oregon, living in La Grande, Ukiah and Pendleton. In recent years, he wintered in Arizona.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Majken Bauer Hynd; three daughters, Martha Frasier of La Grande, Mary Reznicek of Wickenburg, Ariz., and Ellen Moll of Beaverton; and 10 grandchildren.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to any charity.
David W. Morse
La Grande
1952-2008
David William Morse, 56, of La Grande, died Nov. 10 in the ICU at Salem Memorial Hosptal, after battling health problems for many years. A memorial service is planned for the spring of 2009, with inurnment at Valley View Memorial Park and Mausoleum outside of Newberg.
David was born April 14, 1952, in Newberg. He completed all of his schooling there. He became a talented cabinet maker and worked in that trade for 30 years. He was also an accomplished musician and artist, and enjoyed fishing, mushrooming and razor clam digging.
David is survived by his parents, Leonard and Betty (Newton) Morse of La Grande; sisters, Wendy Schmidt and her husband Lester of Lebanon, Mo., and Becky Noll and her husband Willie of Summerville; two daughters, Hailey Morse of Beaverton and Tessy Neal and her husband David of Albany; five grandchildren; four uncles; one aunt; two nieces; and seven great-nieces and great-nephews.
David was preceded in death by his son, Jedidiah Morse in November 2006.
Although David helped others achieve the dream of owning their own homes through his woodworking skills, he was never able to own his own home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Habitat for Humanity are suggested as a way to remember David and his amazing talent with wood.
Gary D. Poole
Wallowa
1924-2008
Gary Dean Poole, 84, of Wallowa, died early this morning at his home in Wallowa of cancer. Bollman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Gary was born Aug. 25, 1924, in Bend. He spent most of his life in the building trade, retiring in 1990 from service as a building inspector for the city of Mill Creek, Wash.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a member of the 517th Parachute Regimental Combat Team, which was deployed to Italy, France, Belgium and Germany.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Poole; and his four children, Michael Poole of Portland, Patrick Poole of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Marta Anderson of Enterprise and Tim Poole of Moscow, Idaho.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wallowa County Home Health Service at the Wallowa Memorial Hospital in Wallowa.
Margaret M. Rider
Formerly of La Grande
1919-2008
Margaret M. (Good) Rider, 89, of Milwaukie and formerly of La Grande, died Nov. 19.
A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Peake Funeral Chapel in Milwaukie.
Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation and Life Celebration Center is in charge of arrangements.
Margaret was born Aug. 19, 1919, in La Grande. In 1936 she married Raymond Rider. He preceded her in death in 1994. She worked as a service clerk for Montgomery Ward for 68 years.
Survivors include her sons, Lyle Rider and Ron Rider; sister, Virginia Rutherford; brothers, Richard Good and Grover Good; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society of Oregon.
