Duncan, Henry, Luse, Fifer, Knight, Livingston

Dolores “Dee” Grace Duncan, 81, of Enterprise, died peacefully May 9. Her cremains will be spread in the Crooked River Gorge in Central Oregon in July. Bollman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dolores was born Feb. 9, 1927, to Marc (Sandy) and Leona Anderson in Port Townsend, Wash. She was raised in Burns. In 1945, she married Robert J. Duncan Sr. and they later divorced. They had three children: Lynn Stein and Robert J. Duncan Jr. of Joseph and Marc Duncan of Gunnison, Colo. Dee had seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Dee was best known locally as the smiling gramma at The Studio in Enterprise, which she co-owned since 2001 with her son, Robert, a photographer.

She was an accomplished assessor for the BLM in Medford for many years. Those who knew Dee, however, said her greatest achievements came through making others’ dreams come true like seeing that her former husband graduated from college while she juggled work and raising three kids; ensuring all her children graduated from college; and tackling a new career at The Studio at the age of 73. She helped take care of her grandchildren. When asked to be of service, her ready reply was always, “Of course.”

She is survived by two sisters, Dorothy Evans of La Grande and Donna Schatz of Jacksonville; and a brother, Marc Anderson of Grants Pass.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Wallowa County Humane Society, the Shriner’s Hospital or the Herring House (a cancer center) in Walla Walla.

Phyllis Constance (Traiver) Henry, 86, of Johnson City, Tenn., and formerly of La Grande, died in the comfort of her home May 28 after a brief illness. A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at the family home. Family and friends are invited to attend. Morris-Baker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Phyllis was born April 15, 1922, to Joshua and Mary Traiver in Johnson City. In 1928 her family moved to La Grande where she attended school and later continued to visit every year.

At the age of 18, Phyllis moved back to her hometown with her husband where she raised three children and worked for many years as a dedicated homemaker. She was a beloved member of many charitable foundations and the East Grove Methodist Church.

Phyllis is survived by her children and their spouses, Susan and Richard Deeter of Oceanside, Calif., James and Adele Henry of Clinton, Mass., Scott and Amie Henry of Seattle, and Scott and Katy Henry.

Benny “Ben” Luse, 60, formerly of Elgin, died May 12 in Everett, Wash. A funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. June 7 at the Christian Life Center in Elgin.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the Elgin Fire Department to help with the new building.

Deborah Lee (Brooks) Fifer, 57, of Fairbanks, Alaska, and formerly of Union and La Grande, died June 3. A graveside service will begin at 2 p.m. June 21 at the Eagle Valley Cemetery. A full obituary will be available later. Friends are invited to join the family following the service at the Eagle Valley Grange. Tami’s Pine Valley Funeral Home in Halfway is in charge of arrangements.

Theodore “Ted” W. Knight, 68, of Pilot Rock and formerly of La Grande, died June 5 at St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton. Burns Mortuary of Pendleton is in charge of arrangements.

Ardith Maxene Livingston, 100, of Union, died May 31 at her residence. A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Union. Viewing will run from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the church prior to service. Loveland Funeral Chapel and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
