Lively, Sanderson, Sconiers

Mildred Lively, 89, of John Day and formerly of Wallowa, died Sept. 25 at Blue Mountain Hospital. A graveside service will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Wallowa Cemetery in Wallowa. Driskill Memorial Chapel in John Day is in charge of arrangements.

Mildred was born May 12, 1919, to Paul and Evelynn (Hyde) Bartmess in Metropolis, Nev. She attended Wallowa High School, graduating in 1938. On Feb. 20, 1939, she married Leonard Lively in Lewiston, Idaho. She enjoyed being a homemaker and knitting.

Survivors include her son, Gary and his wife, Sharon Lively, of Mount Vernon; son, Gale and his wife, Janice Lively of Enterprise; daughter, Donna and her husband, Kyle Lovell of Union; brother, Bart Bartmess; sister, Bernice Milligan of Enterprise; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Lively; parents, Paul and Evelynn Bartmess; sisters, Wanda Evans and Vernie Southwick; and grandson, David Lively.

Billy Sanderson Jr., 79, of Island City, died peacefully Sept. 25 following multiple health problems. A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation and Life Celebration Center.

Billy was born Nov. 8, 1928, to Willie and Hallie (Bottles) Sanderson in Summerville. He attended school for eight years at the Dry Creek School and two years at Imbler. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the United States Army where he served as a sharpshooter during World War II and also served in the Korean War.

He married Gladys Nellie Williams on June 2, 1949, and they remained happily married for 52 years until her death in 2002. They had three children: Kristi Sanderson Perry of Elgin, Leon Sanderson of Dubois, Wyo., and Rocky Sanderson of Milton-Freewater. Billy worked for various farmers for several years and then for Boise Cascade until he retired.

Billy was active in the Eagles, American Legion and was a 29th Degree Mason and a lifetime member of the Scottish Rite. He loved to camp, fish, hunt, travel but most of all he loved to play pool.

He is survived by one sister, Wanda Pointer; his three children and their families, including 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Dorothy Craig and Evelyn Ramsey; and two brothers, Kenneth Sanderson and Donald Sanderson.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital.

A. Ruth Sconiers, 95, of Nampa, Idaho, and formerly of La Grande, died Sept. 10 at her home. A graveside service was held Sept. 12 at the Idaho State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boise.

Zeyer Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Ruth was born April 5, 1913, to Alsey and Etta Fox Catlett in Spingfield, Mo. She was raised in Sapulpa, Okla.

Ruth met Adrian Mac Sconiers and they were married in 1939. In the early 1940s, Ruth and her husband moved to Idaho. They returned to their home state of Oklahoma when Mac joined the Army to serve in World War II. After the war, the couple eventually found their way back to Idaho and made their home in McCall and later in Boise. She also lived in La Grande.

Ruth was buried along with her husband of 62 years, Adrian Mac, in the Idaho State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boise, on the hilltop overlooking the beautiful Boise valley that the couple loved so much.

Survivors include her two daughters, Sharon H. Cassity of La Grande and Karla S. Sconiers of Spokane; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
