Quinn Classic tournament.

Playing before their hometown crowd in newly refurbished Quinn
Coliseum, the Mountaineers jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the first 3 1/2
minutes and never let the Orediggers into the game from there.
Eastern Coach Ryan Looney said he thinks the game – and the two-day tournament – is a preview of what to look for down the road.
“We feel like the teams that are here will be similar to the type of teams we’ll play this season,” Looney said.
Jeremy Templeton, Eastern’s 5-foot-10 senior point guard, hit a three-point shot in the opening minute to set the tone.
After that, the Mountaineers showed they could score from anywhere on the floor. By the end of the half, they were up 45-28.
“We needed to be able to execute well against their zone in both halves, and we did,” said Looney.
Hot-shooting Neil Fryer led the parade to the hoop, turning in a
10-for-11 field goal package that included six three-pointers. He
finished with 26 points.
Other Mountaineers scoring in double figures were Mark Carollo
and Kyle Janke with 11 apiece, and Templeton and Josh Landsverk with 10
each.
Eastern had it all over the Orediggers in the rebounding
department, grabbing 41 boards to the visitors’ 27. Every player but
two had at least one rebound; Janke had the most, with seven.
In defeat, Montana Tech received a stellar offensive effort
from Dusan Veselinovic, who cashed in 19 points. Dirk Anderson also had
a respectable game, chipping in a 15 point effort that included a
9-for-11 performance from the free throw line.
Montana Tech walked off the floor with a 1-5 season record. Coach Nate Larson expressed some disappointment.
“Our rebounding effort and our pride in taking care of the
basketball were lacking,” he said. The team committed 21 turnovers on
the game.
In the tournament’s opening round battle Friday, the College of Idaho beat Montana-Western, 66-57.
The winners placed four players in double numbers, including Craig McGee with 16 points and Kurt Nielson with 15.
Aaron Sims topped the Montana-Western scoring charts, with 14.
In tonight’s games, the College of Idaho squares off with
Montana Tech at 6, and at 8 Eastern tries to up its season mark to 5-0
with a game against Montana-Western.
