June Bechtel, 94, of

La Grande died Dec. 30, surrounded by her family. She had been living with her daughter in Pendleton for the last three years.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Loveland Funeral Chapel in La Grande, followed by burial at the Elgin Cemetery in Elgin.

She was born June 12, 1919, in Elgin to parents Ivan Hug and Iolyn Hug-Nulph. June grew up in Elgin and graduated from Elgin High School in 1938. She married Clarence Bechtel on Aug. 24, 1940, and together they lived in Elgin and La Grande.

She spent her time raising her children and supporting her husband in his construction company.

June was gifted in

gardening, painting, sewing, needlework and cake decorating.

She was committed to her faith and love for family and friends and her face will always be engraved in their hearts forever, the family said.

June is survived by her son, Douglas Bechtel of Cornelius; daughter, Jo Ann (Joey) Bechtel of Pendleton, and sister, Helen Dykstra of Portland. Grandchildren include Sybil Tremper of Pendleton, Mark George of La Grande, Joshua Swegle, of Milton-Freewater and Teresa Bechtel of Oregon City. Great-grandchildren include, Andrew, Brayden, Caleb, Dawson Tremper, Owen and Olivia George, Gavin Swegle, Lily Bechtel and Christina Fry.

June was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; her parents; her sister, Gwen Henderson, and her brother, Jack Hug.
