Calvin Long, 93, of Enterprise, died Dec. 31 at Wallowa Memorial Hospital. A private family burial will be held at the Enterprise Cemetery with a memorial service for friends and family in the spring. Bollman Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.

John F. H. Reister
Enterprise
1928-2016
John Fredrick Herman Reister, 88, of Enterprise, died Nov. 30. A celebration of John’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Jan. 7 at the Enterprise Community Congregational Church.
John was born March 28, 1928, in Peshastin, Washington, to Reverend John F. and Johanna Elizabeth (Mees) Reister. He was the youngest of 11 children and as a child lived with his parents in various towns in Washington, Colorado and California. He graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1946 and joined the U.S. Army, serving in Germany.
In 1952, John received a bachelor’s degree in religion from Pacific University in Forest Grove. He graduated with a master’s degree in library science from San Jose State University in 1967 and spent most of his working years as a professional librarian at various state universities, including what is now Eastern Oregon University (1963-1974), California State University–Chico (1974-1984) and California State University–Hayward (1984-1989).
John married Eunice Marsh Munsey in 1966 and became a father to her two sons, Michel and Steven Munsey. In 1989, John and Eunice retired to Enterprise.
John loved creating stained-glass artwork for family and friends. A sports car enthusiast, he was a member of the Car Nuts who met weekly in Joseph. John also enjoyed baking cookies and hosting dinners for family and friends. He attended the Walla Walla symphony for years and enjoyed stimulating intellectual conversations.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Denise; sister, Betty Reister Cornwell; brother, Jim Reister; nine grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Eunice; son, Michel; and eight sisters and brothers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Friends Service Committee, the Southern Poverty Law Center or the Walla Walla Symphony.
Norma J. Gooderham
Formerly of La Grande
1932-2016
Norma Jean Gooderham, 84, formerly of La Grande, died Dec. 29 at Ocean Ridge Assisted Living Facility in Coos Bay.
Norma was born Nov. 29, 1932, in La Grande, to Clarence and Frances Campbell. She graduated from La Grande High School in 1950. Right after graduation, on June 2, 1950, Norma married Jerry Gooderham and began her lifelong occupation as a wife, mother and homemaker.
Norma and Jerry had four children and taught them to love God and help others. Her children remember her as a loving warm mother who was always there for them no matter what the circumstances.
Survivors include her daughters, Kris Franz and Julie Haines; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Gooderham; son, Jeff Gooderham; daughter, Dena Gooderham; and sister, Viola West.

Robert D. Marquis
Formerly of La Grande
1935-2016
Rev. Robert D. Marquis, 81, formerly of La Grande, died Dec. 27 at his home in Carlton.
There will be a viewing from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Jan. 5 at Macy’s Funeral Home in McMinnville, and a military graveside service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 6 at the Willamette National Cemetery. A celebration of his life will begin at 2 p.m. Jan. 28 at the Carlton Assembly of God. Arrangements are entrusted to Macy and Son Funeral Directors of McMinnville.
Known as Bob, he was born Jan. 7, 1935, in La Grande, to Clarence and Gladys Marquis. Bob earned a ministerial degree at Multnomah School of the Bible. He also attended the University of Oregon and what is now Eastern Oregon University, where he earned a teaching degree. Bob was drafted into the U.S. Army between the Korean and Vietnam wars and was discharged in 1962. In 1965, while teaching and coaching in Stanfield, Bob married Sarah Blalack of Arcata, California.
Bob went from teaching to preaching, but his love of coaching never left him. Upon answering the call of God, Bob offered up his skills as a coach and mentor and became a licensed minister with the Assemblies of God. His first ministry was in the coastal town of Florence, where he started a thriving bus ministry, picking up children for Sunday school. From there, Bob took his first pastorate in Prairie City, teaching the Word of God to young and old alike. He was then called to pastor in Carlton, where he spent the remainder of his life reaching people for Jesus.
According to his family, many lives have been touched by Bob’s preaching, his volumes of Bible studies, his Commandos for Jesus kids ministry, and his countless hours of walking the streets of Carlton, loving and serving people. He was a diligent man of prayer and will be affectionately remembered as “Pastor Bob.”
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Sarah Marquis; daughters, Tabi Rogers of Crescent City, California, and Charis Downs of Lynn- wood, Washington; four grandchildren; and siblings, Thelma Ansell of La Grande, Maxine Easley of Bend, Ray Marquis of Irrigon and Carol Hall of Pendleton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Gladys.

Neva Neill
La Grande
1914-2017
Neva Neill, 102, of La Grande, died Jan. 1 at a local care facility. At her request, a service will be held at a convenient time for family members to attend. The service will be at her chosen gravesite next to her parents and baby sister in Heppner.
Neva was born Aug. 8, 1914, in Heppner, to Edward and Ollie Neill and grew up on a ranch on Butter Creek in Morrow County. She graduated from Pine City High School and received a teaching degree at what was then known as Eastern Oregon Normal School in La Grande.
Neva taught school in Stanfield, Ontario and Heppner before returning to La Grande, where she taught at Willow Elementary School and later at Ackerman Elementary School. Neva advanced her education by earning a master’s degree from the University of Colorado, Greeley, and a Doctor of Education degree from the University of California, Berkeley. She became a respected university faculty member and counselor to hundreds of Eastern Oregon University students prior to her retirement in 1979 as professor emeritus.
Neva also was a community volunteer as a long-time member and past president of the Grande Ronde Hospital Auxiliary and was also active in the Retired Educators of Union County and Delta Kappa Gamma Society. She was a lifelong member and deaconess of the First Christian Church in La Grande.
Neva’s extended family consisted of her sisters’ children and their families. She had a special relationship especially with her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. They mostly referred to her as “Aunt Nene,” and she always had time for them.
Survivors include her nephews, Bill Hermann of La Grande and Ed Akers of Prairie City; niece, Sharlene Wilkins of Hood River; and many great-nieces and great-nephews and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Oleta Akers and Lenna Hermann; and a baby sister, Eva.
