LA GRANDE — Eastern Oregon University’s 2025 winter concert is happening Friday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m. in EOU’s McKenzie Theater.
Admission is free, although donations toward music foundation scholarships will be accepted.
EOU’s 45th Parallel presents an Afro-Cuban genre, featuring horns, woodwinds, piano, electric guitar and fiddle, percussion, and voice. This performance will highlight a range of Afro-Cuban and Latin pop jazz tunes, all arranged by Professor Greg Johnson.
The music itself draws on the works of legendary composers like Herbie Hancock, known for infusing Afro-Cuban influences into jazz. These styles will be very prominent in the performance, along with the famous clave rhythm and a percussion focus.
EOU’s Fiddle Ensemble, led by Duane Boyer, includes students on fiddle, mandolin, guitar and voice performing country and bluegrass tunes.
