- Shelter from the Storm's soup supper fundraiser returns March 15.
LA GRANDE — After a four-year absence, Shelter from the Storm is bringing back its Soup Supper fundraiser on March 15, 6-8 p.m. at the Presbyterian Friendship Center, 1204 Spring Ave.
This event celebrates community, creativity and compassion. Partnering with Art Center East, local artisans have once again crafted handmade bowls, which are the heart of the Soup Supper tradition.
This year, along with ceramic artists, those working with wood, glass and other food-safe materials have also contributed their creations.
Alongside these unique bowls, there will be a variety of delicious soups, enjoyed with good company, live music and a silent auction.
Tickets are $40 and can be purchased at unioncountysfs.org/soup.
The purchase of a ticket goes far beyond a night of great food and community—proceeds directly support the critical work of Shelter from the Storm, empowering advocates to assist survivors of domestic violence and create life-changing outreach programs.
This fundraiser also helps the organization provide hygiene products, hotline services, replacement clothing and other unanticipated needs not covered by grant funding.
Shelter from the Storm, located in La Grande at 10901 Island Ave., was founded in 1979 to provide support and safety for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking within the Union County community. Over the years, it has grown into a comprehensive service provider, dedicated to empowering individuals and fostering a community free from violence.
Their mission is to “provide services to empower survivors and transform the community’s understanding and response to interpersonal violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and human trafficking.”
That mission is achieved through education, support groups, community collaboration, prevention work, advocacy, awareness outreach and emergency supportive services.
