Joseph man involved in Milton-Freewater crash

- A wrecked pickup sits in the southbound lanes Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022, of Highway 125 near Stateline Road north of Milton-Freewater after colliding with an ambulance.
MILTON- FREEWATER — A collision Thursday, Sept. 29, north of Milton-Freewater involving a pickup and an ambulance injured three people, one seriously.
The crash occurred shortly before 3:20 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 125 with Stateline Road near the Oregon border, said trooper Chris Thorson, a public information officer with the Washington State Patrol.
Rikki Barton, 40, of Joseph, was driving a 1991 Chevrolet pickup eastbound on Stateline approaching Highway 12 when an ambulance from the Milton-Freewater Rural Fire Department was heading north on the highway about 2 miles south of Walla Walla, according to the Washington State Patrol. The pickup struck the ambulance in the intersection.
Northbound lanes on Highway 125 near the Oregon border were closed for approximately five hours.
Four people were transported to the nearby Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla, with one in serious condition, Thorson added. The ambulance had been transporting a patient to St. Mary when the pickup struck it, and that patient suffered additional injuries due to the crash, said Walla Walla County Undersheriff Joe Klundt.
Brandie Froberg, 35, of Milton-Freewater, was driving the ambulance. The fire department lists Froberg as a full-time firefighter/emergency medical technician.
Barton could face charges, according to Washington State Patrol.
WSP also reported southbound traffic moved slowly on the right shoulder of the highway, while northbound traffic was diverted to Stateline Road.
