LA GRANDE — Law enforcement officers arrested a La Grande man on Friday, Aug. 9, on a secret indictment warrant charging felony-level sex crimes against a minor.
Greg Bruce Orton, 66, was taken into custody for luring a minor, first-degree sex abuse, two counts of third-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a minor, according to Oregon public records. The first two charges are felonies.
Orton reportedly “unlawfully and knowingly” subjected the reporting party to sexual contact with intimate parts of their body, according to the secret indictment warrant. The first occurrence happened sometime between July 22, 2019 and July 22, 2021 when the reporting party was under the age of 14.
The other two instances happened around July 1, 2023, according to the incident. This was also reportedly when Orton provided the minor with either a visual representation, explicit verbal description or narrative account of sexual conduct in order to induce them into engaging in the act. He allegedly led the minor to witness an act of sexual conduct.
The reporting party was not named in police documents given that they are a minor. EO Media Group does not publish the names of the individuals bringing charges in sex crime cases.
The $1,000 bail security deposit was posted for Orton, according to court records. He is out on a release agreement and is required to check in with his release officer once a week. Orton is prohibited from contacting the reporting party or their family and cannot visit areas where minors gather.
Union County District Attorney Kelsie McDaniel is prosecuting the case for the state. Court records do not show an attorney in the system for Orton as of Aug. 12. He is due in court Aug. 27 for arraignment.
