ENTERPRISE — A trial date has been set for a Wallowa County man accused of assaulting Enterprise police officers earlier this year.
Keith Raymond McFarland, 66, allegedly assaulted three officers when he was stopped for driving with an expired registration in April.
McFarland’s trial is set for 8:30 a.m. Feb. 14-16, 2024, at the Wallowa County Courthouse.
McFarland is being charged with three counts of assaulting a public safety officer, one count of attempting to flee from or elude police, three counts of resisting arrest, and two counts of failure to carry or present a driver’s license.
McFarland pleaded not guilty to all counts in June. He also filed a motion to dismiss because of prejudice on the basis that Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek did not respond to McFarland’s pleadings. The motion to dismiss was denied in August by Presiding Judge Thomas B. Powers under the notion that the dismissal held no basis in law or fact.
McFarland was stopped after Enterprise police saw his vehicle with an expired registration, according to Enterprise Police Department Chief Kevin McQuead. The officers checked for the ownership of the vehicle and determined McFarland did not have a valid driver’s license.
The chief said McFarland failed to stop as commanded and then failed to cooperate with the officers, including McQuead, who also had responded.
All three officers suffered minor injuries in the attempt to take McFarland into custody, the police chief said.
