High school girls basketball: Powder Valley overcomes early deficit, downs Chiloquin to advance

NORTH POWDER — Powder Valley is preparing for the short trip to Baker City for the quarterfinals of the 1A state basketball tournament after downing 11th-seeded Chiloquin, 57-51, in second-round action on Saturday, Feb. 24, in North Powder.
Powder Valley fans saw its team actually trail by seven points as the first quarter came to a close with Chiloquin leading 17-10. The Badgers found the basket in the second quarter, putting up 25 points and a 35-32 lead as the two teams went into the locker room at the half.
Powder Valley and Chiloquin matched each other point for point in the third quarter as both squads scored 12 points. The Badgers outscored the Panthers 12-7 in the final eight minutes to secure the victory.
Leading the charge for Powder Valley was Ayla Bingham’s 12 points. Jodi Bingham and Kellee Dixon each added 10 points, and Jacey Anderson ended the game with nine points.
The victory pushes the Badgers to 21-6 on the season.
No. 6 Powder Valley enters quarterfinal action in Baker on Feb. 29 against 14th-seeded Echo, an upset winner over third-seeded Jordan Valley by a 51-41 margin on Feb. 24.
