JOSEPH The Joseph boys and Wallowa girls took home the team titles from the Jo-Hi Track Invite Saturday.

With the snow-capped mountains as the backdrop, it made for an intense track atmosphere under sunny skies.

The Wallowa girls, defending state 1A champions, got first-place finishes from Shelane Lee in the shot put (30 feet), Lynique Oveson in the javelin (105.5) and the 4×100-meter relay (55.46).

In second place individually for the Cougars were Caitlin Turner in the triple jump (28-11.5), Samantha Silveira in the 100 (13.87) and 200 (29.34), Mysha Oveson in the high hurdles (18.14) and L. Easom in the 800 (3:02.65).

Wallowa had 138.5 points. Enterprise was runner-up with 86 points. Enterprise’s Julie Vernarsky won the high jump (4-10), Krista Stangel took the 1,500 (5:07.79) and 3,000 (11:08.67), and Nicole Santiago leaped to a first-place finish in the 300 intermediate hurdles (49.30).

In third was Union with 77 points. Imbler was fifth, Cove sixth, Elgin seventh and Joseph eighth.

Cove’s Kyleigh Altenburg tossed a 101-5 in the discus to win the event.

Joseph’s Julie Butterfield won the pole vault (8-4).

Union’s Sarah House took the 100 (13.67) and 200 (28.53).

Elgin’s Kelsey Davis has one of the fastest three or four times in the Class 2A level in the 400. She won the event in 1:00.25.

Imbler’s 4×400-meter relay came in first.

On the boys’ side, Joseph tallied 167 points. Enterprise was second with 119.

Joseph was first in 10 events. Corey Otten beat Imbler’s John Bartell by .07 of a second to win the 200-meter dash. Otten finished in :23.65.

Otten also won the 400 (51.5).

Joseph’s Mike Marks had a double day winning the discus (134-11) and shot put (44-6.5). Teammate Cole Lathrop won the high jump (6-2) and high hurdles (17.03).

Joseph’s Kyle Hook threw the javelin 155-8 to win the event. Tristan Patton leaped 37-11 to win the triple jump.

Joseph’s 4×100 and 4×400 relays were the fastest. The 4×100 finished in 45.81 and the 4×400 came in 3:38.35.

Enterprise’s Tony Swart jumped 18-11 in the long jump to take the event.

Enterprise’s Michael Swart was first in the 1,500 (4:29.8) and 800 (2:07.83).

Elgin’s Vance Horn vaulted 13-6, shattering the old record of 13-3.

Imbler’s John Bartell took the 3,000 (10:11.26).

The Elgin boys were third overall, Cove fourth, Wallowa fifth, Imbler sixth and Union seventh.
