HIGHLIGHTS: Methodist churches of NE Oregon unite Sunday

The La Grande United Methodist Church will meet at 10 a.m. to celebrate Christ with worship and fellowship. Pastor Steve Wolff will explore 2 Kings 22 and share his thoughts with a sermon entitled “Look What I Found!” Following the service will be a time of fellowship and coffee.Member churches of the Northeast Oregon Circuit of the United Methodist Church will gather together for service, communion and fellowship at 4 p.m.

Sunday. Following the service, a potluck will be shared. All are urged to attend.

Spaghetti dinner raises funds for food bank

ENTERPRISE – St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, 100 NE Main St., Enterprise, is hosting a community dinner Sunday from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. featuring spaghetti, salads, French bread and ice cream. Donations will support the Enterprise Community Connection food bank.

Don’t worry, be thankful the theme of Sunday service

On this Thanksgiving Sunday, Pastor Ray Smith’s message at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in

La Grande will explore Jesus’ teaching to us about not being anxious. The pastor’s message, “I Don’t Worry,” will refer to Matthew 6:25-33.

Following the worship service and fellowship time, the church will be decorated for the season of Advent, which begins Nov. 29. The church,

located at 901 Penn Ave., is a relay center for Operation Christmas Child and will be collecting filled shoe boxes between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Monday. For more information on how to fill a shoe box and the ministry go to www.samaritanspurse.org/occ.

Day of thanks honored in Wednesday Eucharist

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in La Grande will observe the last Sunday after Pentecost, also the feast of Christ the King, with Holy Eucharist at 9 a.m. The Rev. Kathryn Macek will preside and preach. The vestry will meet after the service. Centering Prayer is offered Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. in the chapel. On Wednesday at 12:15 p.m., also in the chapel, all are invited to take a break from Thanksgiving preparations and join together for a simple Eucharist in honor of our national day of thanks. The office will be closed next week.

The St. Ann’s Guild will hold its annual Holiday Bazaar in the parish hall from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Sweet and savory treats, handcrafted and vintage items, a silent auction and a raffle are featured, as well as cinnamon rolls all morning and a soup and pie lunch, served at 11 a.m.

Lutheran service celebrates Christ the King Sunday

COVE – Grace Community Lutheran Church celebrates Christ the King Sunday with a worship service starting at 10 a.m. Pastor Carl Seelhoff’s sermon, “Washed in Christ’s Blood,” is drawn from Revelation 1:5. Adult Sunday school is held before the service at 9 a.m. and a time of fellowship follows the service. A men’s Bible study and breakfast meets every Thursday at 7:30 a.m. at the church.

Zion hosts ‘Thankoffering’ worship service

Zion Lutheran Church in La Grande will host a Women of the ELCA Thankoffering worship service at 9:30 a.m., followed by a time of fellowship Tuesday at 9:30 a..m. there will be a women’s Bible study. That evening there will a student worship art team meeting at 6:30 p.m.

Jesus’ return will bring comfort, turmoil

The sermon at Faith Lutheran Church on this the last Sunday of the church year will be based on Mark 13:24-37. In these verses Jesus assures us that He will come a second time. This certainty when fulfilled will be great comfort for some and great turmoil for others. Services are at 10 a.m. in La Grande and 2 p.m. in Enterprise.

The church will have a Thanksgiving Day Service in La Grande at 10 a.m.

Church participates in Greater Parish Colloquy service

UNION – This Sunday the United Methodist Church in Union will not have its usual 11 a.m. service. Instead, the congregation will participate in the Greater Parish Colloquy service at 4 p.m. at the Methodist Church in La Grande.

The church hosts a variety of community programs, including a senior lunch every Tuesday. This week a Thanksgiving meal will be served. Transportation is available by calling 541-562-5848 a day in advance.

The weekly Wednesday Prayer Meeting runs from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Prayer requests can be called in to the church’s office. The congregants also habitually pray daily for those they know who need God’s healing and for those on the Grande Ronde phone line. On Thursdays, a Bible study group meets at 1 p.m. at the home of Marguerite Pike. The church’s Bizarre Bazaar will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The event features non-profit organizations.

Sermon to ask, ‘How should we respond to terror?’

After the recent terror attacks in France, the country’s response was to continue their activities and not allow the terror to change anything. The same advice was given to the people of our country after 9/11. Saturday at the

La Grande Seventh-day Adventist Church Pastor Mike will ask: Does God allow terror to cause people and nations to return to Him? He will explore what the Bible has to contribute regarding this issue during the 11 a.m. service.

Prior to the service, the “Savior of the World” series of studies continues at 9:30 a.m. This multimedia series of lessons address the ministry of reconciliation between humanity and Christ. Each participant will receive a lesson guide for each subject.

Sermon focuses on Moses in the wilderness

Doug Edmonds at the La Grande Church of Christ this Sunday will present the lesson, “God With Us: Are We There Yet?” covering Moses’ time in the wilderness with the Israelites. Communion is taken every Sunday. Sunday morning classes begin at 9:30 a.m. and the worship service follows at 10:30. “Children’s Church” is offered during the sermon for kids from age 2 through kindergarten.

During the week, small groups meet on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at various home locations.

‘Truth Is a Person,’ according to pastor

The Reign of Christ Sunday will be celebrated during the 9:30 a.m. worship service at the First Presbyterian Church in La Grande. The sermon, “Truth Is a Person,” will be based on Revelation 1:4b-8 and John 18:33-38. Fellowship will follow the service.
