Between the rows: Catalogs are required winter reading

We have already started into garden catalog season. I’ve gotten several spring bulbs catalogs. After all these years, you’d think I’d be immune to the beautiful flower pictures, but I fall for them every time!

Of course, when you plant bulbs you have reason to look forward to spring. Anticipation makes gardeners guaranteed optimists as we believe in the future and we believe in beauty. It gives us insight about the power of creating smiles and contentment and the ability to nurture and watch plants grow.

Whether or not our gardens got properly “put to bed” suddenly freezes came and the soil froze. The garden year is over, and outside plants are either sleeping or dead, depending on their hardiness.

It is the season of recliners, TV, and dreaming of next year’s garden. What better way to do that than having a nursery catalog in your lap? All the pictures are wonderful! The flowers lush, the vegetables downright edible. …

Some of the catalogs listed below have interesting information such as seed saving, germination times, and tips on growing certain seeds so that you experience success in your gardening. It is a good thing to have catalogs, so that you have daydream material for planning your garden for next spring and summer.
