STANFIELD — A pep talk by Union head coach Koby Dunlap and some adjustments in the locker room at the half led to 1A Union pulling the upset over 2A Stanfield, 42-40, on Tuesday, Jan. 16 in Stanfield.

“This was a tough game for us,” Dunlap said. “We struggled to get anything going in the first half. Stanfield’s quickness really threw us off.”

Dunlap said the team stuck with the game plan allowing the Bobcats to climb back into the game and ultimately grab the nonleague victory. Going into the game, Stanfield held a top-10 2A state ranking.

Team and individual statistics were not made available for the game.

Union (12-4 overall, 2-0 1A Old Oregon League) takes an eight-game winning streak on the road and returns to keep a perfect league record on Jan. 19 with a trip to Echo to take on the Cougars (11-4 overall, 3-0 1A Old Oregon League) in a battle of two of the four teams in the league without a loss.
