Mountain Meadows is all about family

A new adult foster home has opened its doors and management is looking for the right residents to join the family setting.

Shane Holly, the manager at La Grande Rendezvous RV Resort, had been eying the home located in the middle of the park for some time. When the renters of the home moved out, he cautiously approached his bosses, Dale and Ginny Mammen, about wanting to open an adult foster home. They took to the idea immediately, he said.

Holly said the Mammens paid for the remodeling and put their trust in him. Holly and his silent partner, Tom Gentry, officially secured the license in February for Mountain Meadows Adult Foster Home.

“We totally remodeled the place,” he said of the home built in 1929. “We’ve fully furnished it, but residents are welcome to bring their own furniture.”

Adult foster homes offer the one-on-one care that often isn’t available at assisted living facilities.

“With this, I’m inviting them into my home,” Holly said. “They are becoming my family.”

That’s why he’s being selective in his process of filling the home, which has room for up to four residents. He said the residents should want to have a lot of interaction.

“I want to make sure my residents fit well together,” he said. “I don’t want someone who may disrupt the family.”

The home is located at 2632 Bearco Loop in La Grande.

Holly said there will always be someone there at the home with the residents. He and his staff of five are trained to help with all of the residents’ needs.

“I have a full-time licensed practical nurse and a medical assistant,” he said. “We’re nestled in the middle of an RV resort where 80 percent of the residents are senior citizens as well. We have acres of paved streets. And since I manage the park and own the business, I’m always here.”

Holly’s background includes running a day care for patients with Alzheimer’s and owning assisted living homes in Idaho.

He graduated from Eastern Oregon University with a medical and business administration degree with a double concentration in marketing leadership and organizational management. Gentry has 16 years of physical therapy experience.

“Together, the staff makes up one heck of a team,” Holly said.

Mountain Meadows will offer “good country home meals” for the residents, he said, adding that the facility will cater to any dietary restrictions.

Adding to the community aspect of Mountain Meadows, family members will be welcome to visit their loved ones at any time.

“The home is open 24 hours a day to any of their family members,” he said. “I want them to feel like it’s their home as well.”
