Tiger boys take second
PENDLETON – The LHS boys golf team is starting to round into shape, and coach Ron Evans couldn’t be more excited about it.
The Tigers took second place at the Pendleton Country Club Thursday, shooting a team score of 337.
Hanford finished first at 313, while host Pendleton was one ahead of LHS at 336. Walla Walla (350), Richland (352) and Pasco (353) rounded out the top six of the 11-team field.
“The day started out nice, but after six or seven holes it started raining and continued the rest of the day,” Evans said. “But the kids did a great job hanging in there considering the conditions.”
Mavric Goss shot a 75, tied for first place with Hanford’s Eric Dahl.
The two golfers then went to a playoff and both managed to par the first playoff hole.
But on the second hole of the playoff Goss finished with a par, while Dahl made bogey, giving first place soley to Goss.
“He’s (Goss) really starting to play well, which is good with districts and state less than a month away,” Evans said.
Daniel Seymour shot an 85 for La Grande, and Nathan Ladendorf fired an 87.
Jake Girard carded a 90, and Josh Jenkins came in with a 98.
“The greens were tough and wet. But they all did well, they’re really coming around,” Evans said.
The Tigers will be back on the course Wednesday at Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks.
LHS will host its first tournament of the season Friday at the La Grande Country Club.
The action is scheduled to start at noon.
