UNION COUNTY — Cody Bowen is looking forward to another four years as Union County sheriff.
Bowen took an early lead in the race on Tuesday, Nov. 5, according to unofficial results released from the Union County Clerk’s Office. Throughout the evening and into the early hours of the morning, he consistently remained ahead of his opponent, Marine veteran Shane Rollins.
“I’m thankful to my family, my deputies and for the overwhelming support of Union County,” Bowen said.
Election results will not be certified for weeks to come, but the latest unofficial results, updated at about 4 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6, showed Bowen with 8,965 votes (64.6%), while Rollins has 4,865 (35.1%).
Bowen took office as sheriff in 2021. He first joined the Union County Sheriff’s Office as a volunteer around 2010. He was hired full-time the following year and graduated from the academy in 2012. He served as a patrol deputy for four years before being promoted to a school resource officer, which he did for six years.
During his second term, Bowen is looking to build on the momentum of the last four years — and is excited for what the next four will bring. He is eager to put the distraction of campaigning behind him.
“I’m very thankful to get back to work today,” Bowen said.
The plan, he said, is to keep focusing on the direction the office is moving, especially when it comes to morale in the office and transparency with the community.
During his campaign, Bowen said he made an effort to reach out to all different segments of the community — especially those people who might not agree with his actions. He plans to continue seeking this feedback and opening up his circle throughout his next term as sheriff.
Bowen stressed that even though the election is over he still wants members of the community to reach out and share their opinions with him.
He also plans to continue applying for grants and funding opportunities to support staffing levels, equipment needs and other endeavors.
