Union County Babe Ruth starts state with Pendleton

BRAD MOSHER/The Observer UNION COUNTYS JOSH GAMBILL will be one of the pitching weapons that the 14-year-old Babe Ruth all-star squad will be able to throw at their foes in the upcoming state tournament in Salem. The team placed second in the recent district tournament to earn the berth in the state playoffs.

The Union County 13-year-old Babe Ruth team will be opening their

state tournament play at Hood River Tuesday against Pendleton.

The teams will face off in the second game of the day, following the

Mound Time-Snake River Valley opener.

The third game of the afternoon will pit Salem Steelheads against The Dalles, while Tualatin Hills and Hood River will meet in the final game Tuesday evening.

The second day of tournament pool play Wednesday will start with Mound Time meeting Salem Steelheads in the first game, followed by Pendleton and Tualatin Hills.

The third game of the day will pit Union County’s squad against the tournament’s host team from Hood River. The Snake River Valley team will close out the day’s competition against The Dalles.

The third and final day of tournament pool play will start off July 23 with Union County playing Tualatin Hills. Snake River Valley will play the Salem Steelheads in the second game, followed by Mound Time battling The Dalles.

The final game of pool play will pit Pendleton against Hood River.

The preliminary round play will be used to seed the teams for the championship rounds of the state tournament, July 23 and 24.
